About the Role

The Production Manager is a key member of our management team, responsible for overseeing the production department and ensuring its smooth operation. This role requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to drive process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement, maintain, and update policies and procedures in the production department
  • Meet all customer and executive management KPIs for the department
  • Investigate root cause of performance issues and implement improvements to boost performance
  • Conduct risk assessments, plan and execute activities to reduce high-risk processes
  • Maintain 5S and housekeeping standards across subordinates’ areas of responsibility
  • Ensure risk stock levels and potential SSNs are managed effectively
  • Monitor and address critical/risk issues in the department

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Production Manager to lead and manage production operations within a high-volume manufacturing environment in Durban, South Africa. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the Automotive / Metal Manufacturing / Stamping industry and be able to drive continuous improvement initiatives.

About the Role

The Production Manager will oversee the day-to-day production operations of our Production Plants (SMR and Hydrogen Peroxide plants) and Tank Farm, ensuring compliance with OSHAct, local regulations, and corporate/ISO standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that Production Plants and Tank Farm operations comply with OSHAct, local regulations, and corporate and ISO standards.
  • Ensure that Production Plants and Tank Farm are safely operated according to the Plant Operating Manuals and Work Instructions.
  • Monitor the performance of Production Plants and Tank Farm and attain goals with regards to Safety, Health, Environment, and Production by managing the actions of Supervisors and staff.
  • Manage effectively Production Plants and Tank Farm staff.
  • Plan production runs (Grade, concentration and quantity) in conjunction with Sales and Laboratory Departments.
  • Ensure that product quality meets the sales/customer requirements and product is always available for dispatch at the right quantity.
  • Identify and collect information from Supervisors and staff about plant maintenance problems and liaise with the Plant Engineer on timing of repair, and direct Supervisors as necessary to prepare the plant for repair work.
  • Serve as Production contact person for planning and preparation of plant maintenance shutdowns.
  • Verify all permits to work for plant hot work and confined space entry.
  • Produce weekly and monthly production reports.
  • Ensure that the plant operating manuals are reviewed annually.
  • Also, ensure that the operating manuals are updated when there are changes in plant operating practices.
  • Serve as Production contact person for Capital Project work on site.
  • Provide induction training for new staff.
  • Monitor performance of contractors working in production areas and report contractor performance concerns to the Head of Production and Engineering.
  • Monitor performance of subordinates and report performance concerns to the Head of Production and Engineering.
  • Motivate, train and develop staff to ensure continued improvement of staff and to maintain good morale.
  • Carry out production support Stand By duties as per roster.
  • Troubleshoot problems on Production Plants, Tank Farm and Packing Shed to maintain agreed outputs.
