Job Description
- Develop PFDs and P&IDs
- Develop control philosophies
- Compile mass and energy balances for process design purposes
- Assist with commissioning and plant handover
- Design and test new processes and process upgrades
- Ensure developed processes comply with safety and quality standards
- Use and develop process simulation software to optimize, troubleshoot, and reduce costs
- Collect and analyze data to improve and modify existing systems
- Oversee the process scope during construction of new plants
- Purchase and install equipment where required and within competency
- Apply scientific engineering principles (momentum, heat transfer, magnitude, etc.)
- Consult on plant operations and performance improvement
- Develop best practice procedures and manuals for standard equipment
- Assist in developing standard operating instructions and design procedures
- Investigate and troubleshoot plant and process problems
- Conduct plant/process monitoring and reporting
- Schedule and coordinate work to tight deadlines within approved budgets
- Ensure equipment performs according to specifications and capacity requirements
- Liaise with Mechanical and Electrical Engineers and other stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with SHEQ Integrated Management Systems (IMS)
- Assist with technical proposals including CAPEX and OPEX estimations
- Coordinate risk assessments and HAZOP studies where required
What you’ll need
- BEng / BTech / BSc in Chemical Engineering (completed)
- 4 – 8 years’ experience as a Process Engineer within water treatment, mining, or industrial OEM environments
- Strong experience in process design, simulation, optimisation, and plant automation
- Experience in cost management, process documentation, and safety compliance
- Advanced computer skills (MS Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and process simulation software)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and leadership ability
- Commercial awareness with sound budget management capability
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Own vehicle and valid driver’s license
- Willingness to travel and work underground when required
- South African citizen with valid SA ID
