Duties:
- Drive continuous improvement across actuarial processes, with a focus on efficiency and scalability.
- Work collaboratively across actuarial teams to optimise workflows and expand the use of automation.
- Design and implement automated solutions supporting:
- Valuations, Embedded Value, Value of New Business, and Analysis of Change in Embedded Value across multiple entities.
- Experience investigations and assumption setting.
- Data management and ETL processes.
- Provide oversight of non-insurance reporting within the actuarial function.
- Contribute to budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Identify and implement enhancements to actuarial systems and tools.
- Support ad hoc and once-off projects as required.
- Coach, mentor, and develop junior actuarial team members.
Job Experience & Skills Required:
Qualifications:
- Matric (Grade 12)
- BSc / Honours – Actuarial Science or Mathematical Statistics
- Fully qualified actuary (FIA, ASA, or equivalent) depending on the actuarial body.
- Progress toward CIA accreditation is desirable and will be considered an advantage
Experience:
- A minimum of six years’ actuarial experience within the insurance sector, including at least two years post-qualification.
- Demonstrated experience leading or overseeing actuarial or analytical teams.
- Hands-on experience with Excel and actuarial modelling tools such as Basys or Prophet.
- Exposure to data and reporting tools, including QlikView, SQL, or similar platforms.
- Practical experience translating actuarial analysis into meaningful commercial insights.
- Experience working with automation, analytics, or cloud-based tools (e.g. Azure, Power BI, Python) would be advantageous.
Skills & Competencies:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen eye for detail.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective report writing and documentation skills
- Good presentation and communication skills
- Skilled at managing competing tasks while maintaining quality and timeliness.
- Strong organizational and time management skills
