Key Responsibilities HR Governance and Policy Develop, review and maintain HR policies, procedures and practices aligned with the schools values and governance requirements. Ensure HR practices remain compliant with South African labour legislation and best practice. Provide HR advice and guidance to the Head and school leadership. Recruitment and Workforce Planning Manage recruitment and appointment processes for teaching, administrative and operational staff. Assist leadership with workforce planning and staffing structures. Coordinate advertising, interviews and appointment processes. Conduct reference and background checks and ensure responsible recruitment practices. Ensure recruitment and HR processes support the schools safeguarding and child protection responsibilities. Maintain appropriate staff vetting and background verification processes. Staff Relations and Employee Support Provide advice and support to leadership on employee relations matters. Assist with disciplinary, grievance and conflict resolution processes where required. Promote fair and respectful workplace practices across the school. Performance and Professional Development Support the implementation of staff appraisal and performance management processes. Assist leadership in identifying staff development and training needs. Sector skills planning to identify skill gaps and future workforce requirements. HR Administration and Systems Maintain accurate staff records and HR documentation. Oversee employment contracts and employment documentation. Maintain HR information systems and staff data. Ensure confidentiality and appropriate management of HR information. Remuneration, Benefits and Payroll Coordination Remuneration, Benefits and Payroll Administration Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure that payroll information is processed correctly and timeously. Ensure payroll compliance with statutory requirements including PAYE, UIF and other payroll-related deductions. Attend to submission of HR-related statutory returns and payments, including IRP5s and workmen's compensation. Liaise with finance where appropriate regarding payroll reconciliation and reporting. Administer staff leave records and benefit schemes. Compliance and Employment Equity Ensure compliance with relevant employment legislation Assist with Employment Equity planning and reporting where applicable. Staff Wellbeing and School Culture Support initiatives that promote staff wellbeing, engagement and a positive school culture. Contribute to maintaining a professional and supportive working environment. Personal Qualities Professional integrity and discretion Strong interpersonal skills and empathy The ability to engage constructively with staff at all levels Sound judgement and problem-solving ability An appreciation for the values and ethos of an independent school Qualifications and Experience Essential Relevant tertiary qualification in preferably majoring in Human Resources, or Industrial Psychology At least 5 years HR experience in a management or business partnering capacity Strong knowledge of South African labour legislation Advantageous Experience within an education or independent school environment (or) Mission-driven or values-based organisations Professional HR registration (e.g. SABPP)
