Key Responsibilities HR Governance and Policy Develop, review and maintain HR policies, procedures and practices aligned with the schools values and governance requirements. Ensure HR practices remain compliant with South African labour legislation and best practice. Provide HR advice and guidance to the Head and school leadership. Recruitment and Workforce Planning Manage recruitment and appointment processes for teaching, administrative and operational staff. Assist leadership with workforce planning and staffing structures. Coordinate advertising, interviews and appointment processes. Conduct reference and background checks and ensure responsible recruitment practices. Ensure recruitment and HR processes support the schools safeguarding and child protection responsibilities. Maintain appropriate staff vetting and background verification processes. Staff Relations and Employee Support Provide advice and support to leadership on employee relations matters. Assist with disciplinary, grievance and conflict resolution processes where required. Promote fair and respectful workplace practices across the school. Performance and Professional Development Support the implementation of staff appraisal and performance management processes. Assist leadership in identifying staff development and training needs. Sector skills planning to identify skill gaps and future workforce requirements. HR Administration and Systems Maintain accurate staff records and HR documentation. Oversee employment contracts and employment documentation. Maintain HR information systems and staff data. Ensure confidentiality and appropriate management of HR information. Remuneration, Benefits and Payroll Coordination Remuneration, Benefits and Payroll Administration Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure that payroll information is processed correctly and timeously. Ensure payroll compliance with statutory requirements including PAYE, UIF and other payroll-related deductions. Attend to submission of HR-related statutory returns and payments, including IRP5s and workmen's compensation. Liaise with finance where appropriate regarding payroll reconciliation and reporting. Administer staff leave records and benefit schemes. Compliance and Employment Equity Ensure compliance with relevant employment legislation Assist with Employment Equity planning and reporting where applicable. Staff Wellbeing and School Culture Support initiatives that promote staff wellbeing, engagement and a positive school culture. Contribute to maintaining a professional and supportive working environment. Personal Qualities Professional integrity and discretion Strong interpersonal skills and empathy The ability to engage constructively with staff at all levels Sound judgement and problem-solving ability An appreciation for the values and ethos of an independent school Qualifications and Experience Essential Relevant tertiary qualification in preferably majoring in Human Resources, or Industrial Psychology At least 5 years HR experience in a management or business partnering capacity Strong knowledge of South African labour legislation Advantageous Experience within an education or independent school environment (or) Mission-driven or values-based organisations Professional HR registration (e.g. SABPP)

The Person: National Diploma in Human Resources Management or Industrial/Organisational Psychology. Bachelors Degree in Human Resources or Social Studies, a strong advantage. Minimum 3 to 4 years in a similar HR role. The Job: Report to the Divisional HR Manager: HR Legislation: Comply with the relevant HR Legislation (Labour Relations Act, Employment Equity Act, BBBEE Act, Skills Development Act, MIBCO Main Agreement, etc.) Employment Equity: Schedule and attend all EE & SD Committee meetings for the plant. Responsible for EE Administration, plant EE files & EE & SD meeting minutes. Responsible for the availability of up-to-date EE files and documentation for the DoEL inspections. Recruitment and Selection: Complete and follow up on approvals for all vacant positions. Track the recruitment process from beginning to end and provide updates to HR Specialist and plant line management. Liaise with the recruitment agencies, ensuring the recruitment process is tracked and completed. Attend and form part of all recruitment interviews and ensure EE representation for all plant-based positions. Compile, obtain approval from line management and advertise internal vacancies. Ensure a shortlist of candidates are supplied to line management. Co-ordinate and administer the recruitments process. Co-ordinate all relevant verification checks for suitable candidates. Ensure that the recruitment and take-on process for Internships and Apprenticeships are in line with the MERSETA deadlines, and that documentation required is adhered to and supplied accordingly. Industrial Relations: Conduct investigation and review evidence for all IR related matters alongside line management. Responsible for all disciplinary proceedings, and to take minutes as and when required. Assist the HR Specialist with the HR Report on all disciplinary matters. Assist line management with disciplinary actions as and when required, in line with the disciplinary rules & regulations, Attend the DRC and CCMA, as and when required, representing the employer in Conciliations and Arbitrations with the HR Specialist. Performance Management: Administer performance management / counselling records. Attend counselling & disciplinary sessions on request in the capacity of HR Advisor. Take minutes in all disciplinary matters. Probationary Periods: Diarise and keep track of probationary meetings for new recruits. Facilitate probationary meetings. Transition: Co-ordinate and administer the employee exit process on SharePoint. Conduct exit interviews. Ensure exit medicals are performed. Reporting & Administration: Compile HR monthly reports. Represent HR in monthly Shop Stewards meetings. Liaise with union on all matters. Liaise with payroll to ensure any payroll amendments are submitted and made. Responsible for SharePoint transactions as they pertain to the HR Specialist functions. HR Induction training & other adhoc training, if required. All plant related HR administration. Generate POs for any HR Services performed. Process invoices (HR, Psychometric Assessments, etc.). Continuous Improvement: Keep abreast with the latest trends and developments in the Human Resources field. Keep up to date with legislation and the Main Agreement.
