About the Role
An experienced Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Engineer / Technician is required for a permanent position based in Johannesburg, Gauteng Region. This role offers a career growth opportunity into Operations / Project Manager (E&I), supporting operations and managing projects within fuel depots, refinery environments, and hazardous-area installations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of EPCM projects within petrochemical environments
- Support operations and project delivery, ensuring timelines, budgets, and specifications are met
- Hands-on involvement in installation, testing, commissioning, and fault-finding of E&I systems
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and design layouts
- Provide technical leadership and on-site support to installation teams and contractors
- Ensure all systems and installations comply with safety standards, hazardous area requirements, and industry regulations
- Work across multiple systems including PLC, SCADA, MCC, fire & gas detection, tank gauging, and hydrocarbon detection systems
- Support documentation, reporting, and governance requirements across projects
- Engage with clients, consultants, and internal teams to ensure professional project delivery
- Assist in continuous improvement of technical processes, service delivery, and operational efficiency
Requirements
- N6 Certificate / National Diploma / Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Trade Tested Electrician (essential)
- Membership of professional bodies (e.g. MIE) advantageous
- Minimum 10 years experience in Electrical & Instrumentation within petrochemical / fuel storage / refinery environments
- Strong hands-on experience with installations, commissioning, and testing (not purely design-based role)
