About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Mining Engineer to join our team in Johannesburg, where you will take ownership of designs for underground mobile mining equipment and mechanical systems. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for driving innovation and improvement initiatives, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to technical development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of underground mobile mining equipment and mechanical systems
- Create and optimise detailed 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using CAD tools
- Perform FEA analysis and simulations to ensure performance, reliability, and safety
- Design and integrate hydraulic and mechanical systems for heavy equipment applications
- Ensure that designs are optimised for manufacturability, cost efficiency, and durability
- Drive testing, validation, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Support production, commissioning, and field troubleshooting when required
Requirements
- BEng in Mechanical Engineering (preferred)
- 510 years experience in mechanical design within mining, heavy engineering, or OEM environments
- Proven experience with underground mining equipment or similar heavy machinery
- Strong hydraulics knowledge and system integration experience
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks and Inventor) and simulation tools (FEA)
- Solid understanding of welding, machining, and manufacturing processes
Qualifications
- Registered as a Candidate Engineer, working towards Pr Eng registration
