About the Role
Wild Dreams Hospitality is seeking an experienced Field Guide to join our team at our luxury safari lodge in Limpopo. As a Trails Guide, you will be responsible for guiding guests on foot and by vehicle, providing a holistic safari experience, and assisting with administrative operations of the Guides and Safari department. You will also mentor and lead the field guiding team, ensuring exceptional guest experiences and adherence to FGASA standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow all procedures for maintaining the overall operation of the Guides and Safari department, including individual, family, and children’s safari experiences, safety, excellent guest and staff relations, hosting of guests, and the care of all equipment, vehicles, and assets.
- Perform all Field Guide functions according to the standards of FGASA and established guiding culture, including guest introductory and safety orientations, guided game drives and interpretive bush walks, tracking, identification of spoor, delivery of informative lectures on relevant ecological topics, and drinks stops and other bush events.
- Be available for all game drives, back-up drives, and stand-by duties as directed.
- Practice proficient and safe weapon handling as directed.
- Contribute to the lodge’s social media platforms, ensuring consistent delivery of relevant and appealing information with the broader aim of increasing knowledge of the wildlife and operating area.
- Assist with incident handling in the event of emergency or evacuation, including medical emergencies, fire, and flood.
- Ensure all available guest information is collected and communicated prior to arrival.
- Collect guest information while engaging with guests and inform Management so that guest preferences can be recorded and acted upon.
- Ensure all guest complaints are reported to the Head of Department or Management immediately.
Requirements
- FGASA Nature Site Guide NQF4 (Level 2) with full Trails Guide qualification
- Advanced Rifle Handling and Rifle Proficiency
- First Aid Level 1
- Valid Driver’s License and PrDP
- Previous experience as a Field Guide at a luxury safari lodge
- Knowledge of applicable property and company procedures for the department, in line with FGASA standards and best-practice guiding principles
- Excellent attention to detail and strong hygiene standards
- Strong guest-focused philosophy
- Effective communication skills (written and verbal), with honest and professional communication
- Team player with a positive attitude, enthusiasm, and emotional control
- Excellent time management and self-discipline
- Proactive, able to use initiative and creative flair when required
- Committed, loyal, adaptable, and flexible
