About the Role
The Electrical Technician will be responsible for installing, maintaining and repairing all stationery, electrical, and auxiliary equipment in a safe, functional, reliable condition and provides quality customer service to the maintenance planning function. Based in Mokopane, Limpopo, South Africa.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform any combination of (but not limited to) the following duties according to specific department guidelines:
- Have knowledge of and use the required personal protective equipment.
- Determine the existence of electrical hazards and problems. Safely isolate, ground and prepare circuits and electrical apparatus to enable repairs.
- Install electrical conduit, pull and terminate wiring.
- Install, repair, and maintain assorted control and monitoring instrumentation. This includes; electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, and microprocessor-based control and monitoring systems.
- Ability to use test and calibration equipment to calibrate transmitters and control loops. Ability to use computer and related computer software to program controllers and analyse control loops. Good computer skills required.
- Ability to use mathematics and algebra to scale and calibrate process instrumentation.
- Use knowledge of analog and digital circuitry to troubleshoot instrumentation to the component level and effect repairs to microprocessor-based instruments, computer hardware, wiring, and annunciator systems.
- Read/interpret engineering drawings and manuals to install, calibrate, and maintain plant instrumentation systems. Work from complex engineering and manufacturers drawings or manuals to complete projects and assigned work.
- Use hand and power tools related to the instrumentation trades.
- Install and maintain programmable logic control systems (PLC). Interpret and/or modify PLC control logic as necessary. Install and calibrate pressure, temperature, flow, and level controls.
- Design layout work on panels, set up complex control systems, interpret and alter engineering drawings and wiring diagrams.
- Effectively communicate problems and solutions to resolve electrical problems.
- Supervise and participate in the on-the-job training of Utility Maintenance Person as needed.
- Observe installed systems to detect hazards and determine the need for adjustments or modifications.
- Use computerized maintenance system to retrieve and enter information.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining scheduled maintenance programs for plant equipment. Maintain records, update drawings, and develop safety procedures.
- Observe safe work practices to ensure that work does not endanger others.
- Perform other related work as required.
Requirements
- N3 Certificate
- National N6 Diploma or Electrical engineering Diploma will be advantageous
- Qualified Electrical / Millwright / AutoElectrical or Instrumentation Trade Test
- 3-years relevant working experience
- Mining-environment experience is highly advantageous (Especially on opencast drills & Rope shovels)
- Proven commitment to Safety, Health, and Environmental Standards
