About the Role

We are seeking a passionate Sous Chef to join an award-winning table d’hôte restaurant in Observatory, Cape Town. They are celebrated for intimate dining experiences, creative seasonal menus, and a warm, social atmosphere. This is a hands-on leadership role working closely with the Chef Patron to deliver fine-dining standards, mentor the team, and showcase the best of local produce and wines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide and train staff
  • Ensure consistency across all sections
  • Step in as second-in-command when required
  • Maintain organisation and hygiene
  • Manage stock control
  • Implement sustainability practices such as composting and waste reduction

Requirements

  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • Culinary diploma/certificate preferred
  • 5 years’ professional kitchen experience, including leadership roles (or 8 years in similar positions)
  • Strong skills in meat, poultry, seafood butchery, and vegetable prep
  • All-rounder ability across cold, hot, and pastry sections
  • Fluent English, excellent communication and organizational skills

Salary & Benefits

R12 – R15 000 CTC
