Job Description

A highly skilled Financial Manager is required to join the Senior Management team. This person will act as a strategic partner to the CEO and Board, overseeing all financial functions while ensuring the organisation’s long-term financial sustainability. The ideal candidate will not only be technically strong but also passionate about the non-profit sector, with a deep understanding of South African financial, regulatory, and governance requirements. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Budgeting & Forecasting 1. Coordinate and lead the annual budgeting process. 2. Maintain and review monthly forecasts in alignment with budget assumptions and business performance. Financial Operations Management 1. Oversee daily financial operations, invoicing, and payments. 2. Monitor financial performance and identify improvement opportunities. 3. Manage cash flow and deliver monthly cash flow reporting. 4. Ensure accurate monthly management accounts. 5. Review SARS submissions and journal entries. 6. Implement and optimise accounting systems and ERP tools. 7. Proactively identify and mitigate financial risks. Internal Controls 1. Develop and document financial internal controls across all functional areas. 2. Ensure internal controls are monitored, audited, and adhered to. 3. Maintain alignment with internal audit and compliance standards. 4. Create and update accounting policies. Financial Reporting 1. Analyse monthly financial data and trends. 2. Prepare monthly and annual financial reports for BOD, management and stakeholders. 3. Provide strategic financial insights and analysis to senior executives. 4. Review and consolidate management accounts. Audit & Compliance 1. Lead the external audit process and ensure timely audit readiness. 2. Liaise with external auditors and ensure full compliance with audit standards. 3. Ensure the accuracy and completeness of annual financial statements. Statutory & Regulatory Compliance 1. Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements. 2. Submit monthly and quarterly tax returns and statutory submissions. 3. Ensure adherence to all applicable legislation. Relationship Management 1. Maintain strong relationships with financial institutions, auditors, tax authorities, and insurance providers. 2. Manage communication with credit rating agencies and banking partners. People & Performance Management 1. Provide leadership and mentorship to the finance team. 2. Manage team performance through regular performance reviews, feedback, and development plans. 3. Oversee the full employee lifecycle for finance staff including onboarding, training, performance contracts, and disciplinary processes where necessary. 4. Drive succession planning and talent development within the finance function. REQUIREMENTS 1. Grade 12 2. Financial qualification (BCom Accounting or AGA preferred, registered membership with SAICA, CIMA or SAIPA) 3. Must have at least 5 years’ experience in a Financial Management position (NPO/NPC environment advantageous) 4. Proven track record of overseeing financial operations in an NPO/NPC environment 5. Must have experience managing budgets, forecasting, and financial reporting with a strong understanding of statutory compliance 6. Proven ability to lead and develop finance teams and manage external financial relationships 7. Experience with accounting software implementation and financial system optimisations is advantageous 8. Excellent computer literacy (MS Office – Outlook, Word & Excel Advanced) 9. In-depth knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) 10. Working knowledge of financial risk management and audit protocols 11. Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines 12. Excellent written, verbal & client communication skills 13. Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities 14. Experience with donor-funded organisations and grant management 15. Must have a driver’s licence and own reliable transport RUMUNERATION R40,000 To R60,000 (Negotiable – depending on experience & qualifications
