About the Role
A leading food manufacturing company is seeking an experienced EHS Specialist to join their team in Pretoria. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving safety standards on the ground, ensuring compliance, and promoting a strong safety culture across the operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, assess, and mitigate health, safety, and environmental risks within the facility
- Enforce compliance with EHS policies, procedures, and legislative requirements
- Drive a proactive safety culture through continuous monitoring and engagement on the production floor
- Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective and preventative actions
- Collaborate with production, engineering, finance, and HR teams to ensure alignment on EHS objectives
- Develop and manage EHS budgets in collaboration with finance
- Ensure timely completion of tasks, reporting, and compliance documentation
- Provide practical, on-the-ground problem solving in a high-pressure manufacturing environment
Requirements
- Proven experience in an EHS role within manufacturing (food production preferred)
- Strong working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation
- Ability to work independently with a proactive, self-driven approach
- Strong bias for action with excellent follow-through
- Confident in enforcing rules while maintaining professional relationships
- Resilient and able to handle pressure and conflict effectively
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to work cross-functionally and build effective working relationships
- Hands-on approach with a strong work ethic
