About the Role
A leading food manufacturing company is seeking an experienced EHS Specialist to join their team in Pretoria. The ideal candidate will drive safety standards, ensure compliance, and promote a strong safety culture within a fast-paced production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, assess, and mitigate health, safety, and environmental risks within the facility
- Enforce compliance with EHS policies, procedures, and legislative requirements
- Drive a proactive safety culture through continuous monitoring and engagement on the production floor
- Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective and preventative actions
- Collaborate with production, engineering, finance, and HR teams to ensure alignment on EHS objectives
- Develop and manage EHS budgets in collaboration with finance
- Provide practical, on-the-ground problem solving in a high-pressure manufacturing environment
Requirements
- Proven experience in an EHS role within manufacturing (food production preferred)
- Strong working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation
- Ability to work independently with a proactive, self-driven approach
- Strong bias for action with excellent follow-through
- Confident in enforcing rules while maintaining professional relationships
- Resilient and able to handle pressure and conflict effectively
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to work cross-functionally and build effective working relationships
