Job Description
Our client in the travel and tourism industry is seeking to employ an experienced Bookkeeper (Full Function to Trial Balance) to join their team based in Port Elizabeth.
To manage the full bookkeeping function across multiple entities, ensuring accurate financial records, compliance with statutory requirements, and timely reporting up to Trial Balance level in a multi-currency environment.
Requirements:
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum 10+ years experience in a full-function bookkeeping role
- Experience working with multiple entities and currencies (ZAR and USD)
- Exposure to hospitality or tourism industry advantageous
- Advanced Excel skills
- Experience with foreign exchange and multi-currency transactions
- Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks Online / Zoho advantageous)
- Strong understanding of South African statutory requirements (VAT, PAYE, SARS eFiling)
Responsibilities:
Financial Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledgers (P and L and Balance Sheet)
- Perform monthly general ledger reconciliations
- Manage accounts payable and receivable functions
- Capture bank transactions daily and perform regular bank reconciliations
- Conduct trip audits and reporting on client deposits
Intercompany Accounting:
- Reconcile intercompany loan accounts across multiple entities
- Ensure accurate recording of cross-entity transactions and reimbursements
Statutory Compliance and Tax:
- Prepare and submit PAYE returns via eFiling
- Ensure financial data is audit-ready for external accountants
- Support year-end audits and compliance processes
Reporting to Trial Balance:
- Execute month-end closing procedures
- Prepare and verify Trial Balance for all entities
- Maintain fixed asset registers and process depreciation journals
