About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and technically skilled Site Engineer to support the execution of construction works on site. The role involves interpreting drawings and specifications, assisting with engineering activities, and ensuring that works are delivered safely, accurately, and in line with project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in identifying and documenting contract variations and claims
  • Support communication with clients and project stakeholders on contractual matters
  • Assist in resolving contractual issues alongside senior site staff
  • Develop basic understanding of construction contracts and conditions
  • Assist in interpreting construction drawings and specifications
  • Identify and troubleshoot basic technical issues on site
  • Support subcontractors with technical guidance on construction details
  • Develop knowledge of modern construction methods and technologies
  • Apply SHE principles on site at all times
  • Support compliance with health, safety, security, and housekeeping standards
  • Assist in ensuring job safety assessments are completed before work begins
  • Participate in safety meetings, inspections, and training sessions
  • Identify risks and assist in implementing mitigation measures
  • Ensure PPE compliance across site personnel
  • Assist in material procurement and tracking of usage
  • Support monitoring of equipment usage and site resources
  • Assist in reporting material issues and wastage
  • Provide input on labour, materials, and equipment for cost tracking
  • Assist in identifying cost variances and improvement opportunities
  • Assist in monitoring site progress against programme
  • Support schedule updates and reporting of delays
  • Communicate activities and timelines to subcontractors
  • Assist in sequencing of construction activities
  • Conduct basic quality checks on site activities
  • Assist in inspections and preparation of quality reports
  • Support enforcement of quality standards and SANS compliance
  • Assist in verifying drawings, quantities, and workmanship quality
  • Support spot checks across different trades
  • Identify potential risks during daily site activities
  • Assist in updating the project risk register
  • Support mitigation planning and corrective actions
  • Respond to site issues and assist in problem resolution
  • Assist in compiling site progress reports
  • Maintain records of site activities, inspections, and meetings

Requirements

  • BTech / BSc in Construction Management or Civil Engineering
  • Minimum 1 year building/construction site experience
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings and site processes
  • Computer literate (MS Office essential)
