About the Role
Safari JOBS is seeking a dynamic Assistant Maintenance Manager to join the management team of a 5-star sanctuary within a malaria-free game reserve. This role offers a unique opportunity for a hands-on leader to oversee the infrastructure of a premier safari destination, blending traditional aesthetics with high-end hospitality. As a guardian of the guest experience, you will assist in leading a dedicated team of maintenance staff to ensure every system operates at an optimum standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Communicates directly with Operations departments to coordinate maintenance and repair work to 5-star standards.
- Conducts employee performance reviews based on job descriptions to determine competency, knowledge, and contribution of the maintenance staff.
- Maintains and updates operating and training manuals for the Maintenance department.
- Ensures all maintenance staff is trained on the most updated version of operating procedures.
- Monitors operation of equipment and systems, minimizing unplanned downtime and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Maintains and repairs maintenance workshop equipment.
- Establishes and maintains a clear service record of all lodge equipment.
- Prepares reports, analyses data, and makes recommendations for improving operations and solving maintenance-related problems.
- Programs door locks and electronic safes.
- Ensures maintenance technicians are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated.
- Communicates regularly with maintenance staff to ensure good two-way communication concerning maintenance issues.
- Assists with recruiting & selection of maintenance personnel.
- Initiates and carries out projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.
- Tracks, analyses, and improves key maintenance parameters such as asset utilization, maintenance cost, PM compliance, schedule compliance, etc.
Requirements
- Clear criminal record

- Excellent English fluency & literacy
- Computer literate
- National Senior Certificate
- Trade Test Certificate
- Minimum 4 – 5 years experience in a 4 or 5-star hotel, lodge, or similar environment
Qualifications
- Wireman’s Licence (advantage)
Salary & Benefits
Basic monthly remuneration: NEG. DOE and qualifications PLUS
- Accommodation (partly/basically furnished) & own bathroom
- 2 meals per day from the staff canteen
- Provident fund
- Medical Aid membership is a compulsory part of the package, offering employees the security of ongoing cover, with the full contribution payable by the employee
- Uniform and laundry thereof
- Complimentary staff shuttle service is provided for shift transport
