Job Description
- Perform thermalhydraulic analyses to support equipment sizing and system performance
- Lead the selection and/or detailed design of components, including:
- Heat exchangers
- Piping and valve systems
- Pressure vessels
- Rotary kilns
- Pumps and associated plant equipment
- Develop and review engineering drawings, specifications, datasheets, and calculations in accordance with relevant codes and standards (ASME, SANS, etc.)
- Manage design deliverables, ensuring technical quality and approving engineering documentation
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including process, structural, and instrumentation engineers
- Provide technical support during procurement, fabrication, inspection, and site commissioning
- Liaise with clients, suppliers, and thirdparty inspection bodies on technical matters
- Mentor and guide junior and intermediate engineers within the design team
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of internal design standards, procedures, and best practices
- Support business development activities, including technical proposal preparation and scope definition
Job Experience & Skills Required (Ideal Candidate Profile):
Education
- Master of Engineering (MEng) or Master of Science in Engineering (MSc Eng) in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) with ECSA, or eligibility to register, is strongly preferred
Experience
- Minimum of 8 years’ postgraduate experience in mechanical design engineering
- Proven experience in the design and integration of process equipment and systems, with handson exposure to at least two of the following:
- Shellandtube, plate, or finned heat exchangers
- Industrial piping systems and pipeline engineering
- Rotary kilns and thermal processing equipment
- Centrifugal and positive displacement pumps
- Pressure vessels and storage tanks
- Fired heaters or combustion equipment
Technical Competencies
- Proficiency in 3D CAD modelling software for design review and oversight (e.g. SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor, or equivalent)
- Experience with thermal and hydraulic simulation tools is advantageous
- Strong capability in engineering calculations and the use of calculation packages
- Familiarity with quality management systems and engineering document control processes
