About the Role
Network Finance is seeking a skilled Mechanical Estimator to join our team in Gauteng. As a key member of our estimating department, you will be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for HVAC systems and industrial process ventilation and cooling systems. You will also source and evaluate supplier quotations, build cost breakdowns, and maintain accurate records.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse tender documents, drawings, specifications, and Bills of Quantities (BOQs)
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for HVAC systems (chilled water, VRF/VRV, ventilation, ducting, extraction systems) and industrial process ventilation and cooling systems
- Perform accurate quantity take-offs (manual and software-based)
- Compile complete and competitive tender submissions within deadlines
- Develop pricing strategies aligned with margin and market conditions
- Source and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations
- Build detailed cost breakdowns for materials (ducting, piping, insulation, equipment), labour (installation teams, specialists), and plant and equipment
- Account for site-specific factors such as remote project locations, labour productivity and availability, safety and compliance requirements
- Maintain and update cost databases and historical pricing records
- Interpret HVAC designs, mechanical drawings, and P&IDs
- Identify risks, discrepancies, and opportunities for value engineering
- Propose cost-effective solutions without compromising quality or compliance
- Liaise with engineering teams to clarify scope and technical details
- Assist with tender clarifications, commercial submissions, contract documentation, and review contract conditions (e.g., NEC, FIDIC, JBCC)
- Identify commercial risks and recommend mitigation strategies
- Support project handover to execution teams
Requirements
- Strong understanding of industrial HVAC systems and components
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and P&IDs
- Proficiency in estimation tools (Excel, CCS, CostX, or similar)
- Knowledge of South African engineering and construction practices
