About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Sommelier to join our 5* Game Lodge in Pilanesberg, where you will be responsible for managing our wine program, curating our wine list, and providing exceptional service to our guests.
Key Responsibilities
- Guiding guests through wine selections and suggesting pairings
- Curating and regularly updating the restaurant’s wine list, including managing pricing and supplier relationships
- Overseeing the storage, rotation, and inventory of wine, ensuring it is readily available and served properly
- Educating service staff on wine knowledge, proper serving etiquette, and, in some cases, beer, spirits, and after-dinner cigars
- Decanting wine, managing glassware and tools, and keeping up with industry trends
- Managing wine inventories, ordering, and menu planning
Requirements
- WSET Level 2 / 3 or higher
- Formal Sommeliers certification
- At least 1-5 years of experience in high-end, luxury, or fine-dining environments
- Expert knowledge of wine, spirits, and, in some cases, cigars, with a strong grasp of regional specialties (e.g., South African wines)
- Mastery of wine service, including proper opening, decanting, and glass selection
- Excellent interpersonal skills for interacting with guests and recommending pairings
- Ability to up-sell and maximize beverage revenue
