This organisation is one of South Africas leading professional rugby franchises, proudly based in Durban and representing KwaZulu-Natal at the highest levels of the sport. The organisation operates a fully integrated Media House, managing its entire digital ecosystem including social media platforms, CRM, website, and in-house content production. The team produces high-impact digital content that captures the intensity of the game, the personalities of the players, and the energy of the fan community.
Through powerful storytelling, real-time engagement, and community-focused initiatives, the Media House creates immersive match-day experiences and maintains strong connections with supporters across multiple digital platforms.
Role Overview
The Video Editor / Animator is responsible for transforming raw footage into engaging, platform-ready video content that drives digital engagement across social media and other digital channels.
This role focuses on post-production, including video editing, motion graphics, animation, sound design, and final polish. The successful candidate will take creative briefs from the creative and digital teams and deliver compelling visual content that resonates with fans and performs effectively across platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and other digital channels.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys creative storytelling, and is comfortable working to tight deadlines around sporting events and match days.
Key Responsibilities
- Edit and produce high-quality video content from raw footage including match highlights, training sessions, interviews, behind-the-scenes material, and archival clips.
- Develop engaging video formats such as highlight reels, hype videos, player profiles, fan features, and short-form social media content.
- Create motion graphics, animated elements, transitions, and visual effects to enhance storytelling and maintain brand consistency.
- Perform sound design including music selection, audio mixing, and sound effects to ensure polished, professional audio output.
- Optimise video formats for various digital platforms (e.g., vertical for TikTok/Reels, horizontal for YouTube, square formats for social feeds).
- Deliver fast-turnaround edits during live events and match days, including real-time clips and post-match highlights.
- Collaborate closely with the creative and digital teams to interpret briefs, propose creative approaches, and refine edits based on feedback.
- Maintain organised project files, asset libraries, and version control to ensure efficient production workflows.
- Stay up to date with emerging video editing techniques, animation styles, and digital content trends.
- Ensure all produced content aligns with established brand guidelines and visual identity standards.
Requirements
- Minimum 4+ years of professional experience as a Video Editor, Motion Graphics Artist, or similar role.
- Experience within sports, media, entertainment, or creative agencies is advantageous.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating fast-paced editing, social media content, motion graphics, and animation work.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop.
- Familiarity with tools such as DaVinci Resolve, Cinema 4D, or similar software is beneficial.
- Excellent sense of timing, pacing, and visual storytelling.
- Strong understanding of social media video optimisation, including platform formats, trends, and engagement strategies.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure with tight deadlines, particularly around live sporting events.
- Passion for rugby or professional team sports and understanding of sports audience engagement.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a creative team.
- Relevant qualification in Film Production, Video Editing, Motion Graphics, Animation, or equivalent practical experience.
