About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Social Worker Supervisor with proven adoption services experience to provide professional oversight, mentorship, and quality assurance within a child protection and adoption programme. This role is ideal for a SACSSP-registered Social Worker with strong leadership skills, sound ethical judgement, and a deep understanding of adoption legislation, permanency planning, and best-interest-of-the-child principles.
Key Responsibilities
● Provide clinical and administrative supervision to social workers delivering adoption and child protection services.
● Ensure compliance with Children’s Act (38 of 2005), adoption regulations, and DSD Norms and Standards.
● Review, guide, and sign off on adoption assessments, statutory reports, and court documentation.
● Oversee adoption processes including screening, matching, placement, and post-adoption services.
● Ensure ethical, child-centred decision-making in line with best practice and legal requirements.
● Support permanency planning, reunification assessments, and alternative care interventions where applicable.
● Monitor casework quality, documentation standards, and statutory timeframes.
● Prepare programmes and teams for DSD audits, inspections, and court scrutiny.
● Ensure POPIA-compliant handling of sensitive child and family information.
● Mentor, coach, and develop social workers and auxiliary staff.
● Facilitate case discussions, debriefing sessions, and professional development.
● Promote ethical practice, staff wellbeing, and a supportive team culture.
● Liaise with DSD, Children’s Courts, adoption panels, legal practitioners, and partner organisations.
● Represent the organisation professionally in statutory, inter-sectoral, and judicial processes.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in social work
Current SACSSP registration
Minimum 5 years’ experience in adoption and child protection services
Supervisory or senior social work experience (essential)
In-depth knowledge of:
o Children’s Act and Adoption Regulations
o DSD Norms and Standards
o Court processes and statutory reporting
o Ethical and professional practice standards
Qualifications
Formal education/certifications: Bachelor’s degree in social work
Salary & Benefits
20,000.00 (ZAR)-25,000.00 (ZAR) per month
