Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and meticulous Site Engineer or Construction Technician to oversee the construction of a two-storey residential building comprising multiple dwelling units. The project will be executed by an independent team of labourers led by a foreman, rather than a traditional construction company. As the client’s representative, you will ensure that all work is carried out according to the approved architectural and structural plans, maintaining high quality standards, and strictly adhering to the South African National Standards (SANS) and National Building Regulations.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Conduct critical stage inspections and provide technical guidance to the foreman and labour team.
  • Review all approved architectural drawings, structural plans, and engineering specifications prior to the commencement of work.
  • Establish a clear communication channel with the client and the foreman to preempt potential issues.
  • Inspect and approve work at critical milestones before the next phase of construction can proceed.

Requirements

  • A qualification in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or Building Science (e.g., National Diploma, BTech, or BSc).
  • A minimum of 5 years of proven on-site experience overseeing residential or commercial building projects, specifically multi-storey structures involving reinforced concrete slabs and load-bearing brickwork.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the authority to enforce quality control measures onsite.
