About the Role
The Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Consultant will strengthen evidence-based programming, accountability, and learning across our organisation’s child protection initiatives in Cape Town. We are seeking a practitioner with a deep understanding of child-centred development, safeguarding principles, and the complexities of working with vulnerable populations.
Key Responsibilities
- M&E System Design for Child Protection: Develop and refine M&E frameworks, theories of change, and results chains tailored to child protection, psychosocial support, and community-based interventions.
- Design indicators that measure safety, wellbeing, resilience, case management outcomes, and prevention impact.
- Ensure M&E systems align with national child protection legislation, donor requirements, and safeguarding standards.
- Integrate ethical, child-safe data collection methodologies.
- Data Collection, Case Tracking & Quality Assurance: Develop tools for case management monitoring, referral tracking, risk assessments, and programme performance.
- Train social workers, child and youth care workers, and programme staff on ethical data collection, confidentiality, and informed consent/assent.
- Conduct routine data quality assessments and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with POPIA and child safeguarding protocols in all data processes.
- Evaluation & Learning: Lead baseline, midline, and endline evaluations using mixed methods approaches appropriate for vulnerable populations.
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis to assess programme effectiveness, behavioural change, and child wellbeing outcomes.
- Produce high-quality evaluation reports, learning briefs, and donor-compliant submissions.
- Facilitate learning sessions, reflective practice workshops, and case reviews to strengthen programme quality.
- Reporting, Accountability & Donor Compliance: Prepare narrative and statistical reports for donors, partners, and regulatory bodies.
- Support the organisation’s accountability to beneficiaries through participatory feedback mechanisms.
- Ensure timely submission of M&E deliverables aligned with grant agreements and organisational standards.
- Document best practices, success stories, and evidence of impact.
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of child protection systems, case management, safeguarding, and psychosocial support frameworks.
- Proficiency in M&E methodologies, evaluation design, and results-based management.
- Experience with digital data collection tools (Kobo Toolbox, Survey CTO, ODK, CommCare).
- Strong analytical skills, including quantitative and qualitative analysis.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Monitoring & Evaluation, Social Work, Development Studies, Public Health, Psychology, or related field.
