PBT Group is seeking skilled Data Engineers for opportunities in Cape Town. The successful candidates will be responsible for the effective movement, collection, integration, storage, and provisioning of data to meet business objectives. This role requires a strong understanding of data architecture principles, collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, end-to-end data solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes to support analytical and operational data needs.
• Collaborate with Enterprise Architects, Database and Solution Architects, BI Developers, Data Scientists, and Product Owners to deliver integrated data solutions.
• Demonstrate proficiency in SQL, SAS, Python, and Cloud technologies (AWS or Azure).
• Deliver end-to-end data engineering solutions, from ingestion to provisioning.
• Contribute to data quality assurance, governance, and performance optimisation.
• Work in an Agile environment, driving continuous improvement and innovation.
• Ensure all development aligns with architectural standards and security best practices.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for data integrity and optimisation.
• Able to communicate complex data concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently or within collaborative teams.
• Passionate about emerging data technologies and best practices.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum Qualification: Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• Preferred Qualification: Honours or Masters degree in a related discipline.
• Experience: 3 5 years of relevant experience in data engineering or analytics.
• Proven experience in SQL, Python, PySpark, and data pipeline development.
• Experience in using APIs for data integration.
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) and data architecture principles.
• Experience with MS BI or Oracle Stack will be advantageous.
• Familiarity with machine learning frameworks is beneficial.
• Certifications in AWS, Azure, SQL, SAS, or Python will be advantageous.
