Centurion: Solar Design Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and technically skilled Solar Design Engineer to join our renewable energy team, responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing solar PV systems for commercial, industrial, and utility-scale projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design grid-tied, hybrid, and off-grid solar PV systems
  • Prepare system layouts, single-line diagrams, and electrical drawings
  • Conduct site assessments and energy yield calculations
  • Perform PV system sizing, cable sizing, and inverter selection
  • Develop bill of quantities (BOQs), technical proposals, and engineering documentation
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant electrical standards and regulations
  • Support procurement and project execution teams during implementation
  • Assist with commissioning and troubleshooting activities where required
  • Optimize system performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Renewable Energy Engineering
  • 25 years experience in solar PV design and engineering
  • Proficiency in solar design software such as PVSyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD, PVSol
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Solar PV systems
  • Inverters and battery storage
  • LV electrical systems
  • Protection and earthing
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Good understanding of South African electrical standards and regulations
