About the Role

As a CNC Machinist at Execustaff South Africa (Pty) Ltd, you will be responsible for setting up and operating computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools to produce high-quality components. You will work on various projects, including machining operations, refurbishment and repair, drawing interpretation and technical compliance, quality control and inspection, tooling management, machine care and maintenance support, and productivity and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review work orders, drawings, specifications, and machining instructions.
  • Select appropriate machine tools, fixtures, and cutting tools.
  • Set up machines for specific jobs and production runs.
  • Perform machine adjustments and alignments.
  • Verify tooling condition and suitability.
  • Ensure material and equipment availability before commencing work.
  • Operate conventional and/or CNC machine tools safely and efficiently.
  • Machine components according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Perform turning, milling, drilling, boring, threading, grinding, and related machining operations.
  • Achieve specified tolerances, finishes, and dimensional requirements.
  • Monitor machine performance during operations.
  • Adjust machining parameters as required.
  • Restore worn or damaged components through machining processes.
  • Assess refurbishment requirements against technical specifications.
  • Remove defects and restore dimensions within allowable tolerances.
  • Perform machining operations supporting rebuild projects.
  • Ensure repaired components meet quality and operational requirements.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, symbols, and specifications.
  • Verify dimensions and machining requirements before commencing work.
  • Identify discrepancies or technical issues.
  • Consult with supervisors or engineering personnel where clarification is required.
  • Conduct in-process inspections during machining.
  • Verify dimensions using precision measuring instruments.
  • Complete quality documentation as required.
  • Identify and report non-conforming work.
  • Ensure final dimensions meet specifications before submission for inspection.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools and inserts.
  • Monitor tooling wear and performance.
  • Replace or recondition tooling as required.
  • Ensure tooling is stored and maintained correctly.
  • Recommend tooling improvements where appropriate.
  • Conduct routine machine inspections and housekeeping.
  • Perform daily operator maintenance activities.
  • Report machine defects or performance issues.
  • Assist maintenance personnel during repairs where required.
  • Maintain machine cleanliness and operational readiness.
  • Meet established production targets.
  • Minimise waste, scrap, and rework.

Requirements

  • Relevant experience in CNC machining operations
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings and specifications
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently with CNC machine tools
  • Good communication skills for interpreting technical information

Qualifications

  • National Diploma or Higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field (not specified)
