Job Description

The Assembler is responsible for the assembly, fitting, installation, and testing of trackless mining machinery and related capital equipment in accordance with engineering drawings, quality standards, and production schedules. The role requires a qualified Fitter with strong mechanical assembly experience in heavy engineering, mining, or OEM manufacturing environments. The incumbent ensures that all equipment is assembled safely, efficiently, and to the required Fermel quality and customer specifications before final inspection and dispatch. Mechanical Assembly & Fitting Assemble trackless mining machinery and capital equipment according to engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions. Perform mechanical fitting of components including: Hydraulic systems Drivetrain components Axles and transmissions Structural assemblies Pneumatic systems Brake systems Install and align mechanical components using precision measuring instruments. Conduct torque settings and assembly verification checks. Ensure correct use of tools, lifting equipment, and assembly fixtures. Production & Manufacturing Meet daily and weekly production targets. Work closely with Fabrication, Quality Control, Stores, and Engineering departments to ensure smooth production flow. Identify assembly issues and escalate technical problems to supervisors. Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve assembly efficiency and reduce rework. Quality & Compliance Ensure assemblies comply with OEM standards, engineering specifications, and quality requirements. Conduct self-inspections during assembly processes. Rectify assembly defects and non-conformances identified during inspections. Complete all production and quality documentation accurately. Maintain adherence to ISO quality standards and production procedures. Health & Safety Comply with all company health and safety requirements. Ensure safe handling of tools, machinery, and lifting equipment. Maintain a clean and organized workstation in line with 5S principles. Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and near misses immediately. Qualifications Qualified Artisan Fitter Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal) Experience Minimum 35 years experience in mechanical assembly or heavy equipment manufacturing Experience in: Trackless Mining Machinery (TMM) Mining equipment Heavy engineering OEM manufacturing environments Experience working on capital equipment assembly is advantageous Technical Competencies Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and assembly instructions Strong mechanical fitting and assembly skills Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems Experience using precision measuring equipment Understanding of torque requirements and assembly tolerances Basic fault-finding and troubleshooting ability Knowledge of mining equipment and underground machinery advantageous Behavioural Competencies Strong attention to detail Good problem-solving ability Team player with good communication skills Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines High level of accountability and workmanship Safety conscious and disciplined Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Assembly quality and defect rates Production target achievement Rework and non-conformance reduction Compliance with safety procedures Housekeeping and workstation standards On-time completion of assemblies Working Conditions Workshop and manufacturing plant environment Exposure to noise, heavy machinery, and lifting activities May be required to work overtime and shifts based on production requirements
