About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to join our team at Craven Cottage CC’s Central Distribution Centre. As a key member of our purchasing team, you will be responsible for managing our inventory and ensuring that we meet our operational requirements. Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately forecast demand and place orders based on stock movement, sales trends, and operational requirements
  • Manage both perishable (fresh) and non-perishable categories with equal competence
  • Maintain optimal stock levels, balancing availability, stock movement, and waste control
  • Monitor and adjust orders in real time to respond to:
  • Sales fluctuations
  • Seasonal trends
  • Supplier constraints
  • Build and manage strong supplier relationships, ensuring:
  • Reliable deliveries
  • Consistent quality
  • Efficient resolution of claims and discrepancies
  • Work closely with store and receiving teams to resolve issues quickly and effectively
  • Take ownership of key KPIs including availability, waste, stockholding, and supplier performance
  • Operate across multiple systems to analyse data, track performance, and drive decision-making

Requirements

Proven experience as a Buyer in a retail or FMCG environment

Strong capability in both fresh and non-perishable buying

Demonstrated ability to manage stock effectively under pressure

Highly analytical with strong attention to detail

Confident working across multiple systems and interpreting data

Strong supplier management and negotiation skills

A proactive, solutions-driven mindset with a high level of accountability

Willingness to work weekends and public holidays when required

Ability to respond to operational issues outside of standard hours when necessary

Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment

A team player who collaborates well across departments

Equally effective working independently and making decisions autonomously

Resilient, organised, and able to prioritise in a dynamic environment

Someone who takes ownership and follows through
