About the Role
As a Senior Technical Consultant at Psybergate, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise on integrating solutions across multiple technologies and designing enterprise storage solutions. You will work closely with the Group Technology team to ensure scalable, secure, and high-quality infrastructure solutions aligned to business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a technical thought leader within Group Technology, providing expertise on integrating solutions across multiple technologies
- Design and implement enterprise storage solutions including SAN, NAS, Object Storage, and Hyper-Converged environments
- Configure and optimise storage arrays such as Dell PowerMax, Pure Storage, Hitachi, and NetApp
- Define storage tiering strategies aligned to performance, cost, and workload requirements
- Develop capacity planning models and forecasting reports
- Lead storage refreshes, upgrades, migrations, and consolidation initiatives
- Architect and implement backup and recovery solutions using tools such as Commvault, NetBackup, Veeam, Rubrik, or Cohesity
- Define backup strategies including policies, scheduling, retention, and media management
- Implement and test disaster recovery (DR) capabilities for critical workloads
- Optimise backup performance through deduplication, compression, and efficient storage utilisation
- Integrate backup platforms with cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GCP)
- Develop and implement enterprise archiving strategies for structured and unstructured data
- Work with archiving tools such as IBM Optim, Mimecast, Enterprise Vault, or cloud-native solutions
- Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks (e.g. POPIA, SARB, internal governance standards)
- Drive data lifecycle management including retention, classification, and archiving policies
- Provide guidance on best practices, engineering standards, and infrastructure strategy
Requirements
- Relevant Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
- Proven experience in enterprise storage, backup, and infrastructure engineering
- Strong expertise in SAN/NAS, storage arrays, and data management solutions
- Hands-on experience with backup technologies such as Commvault, NetBackup, Veeam, Rubrik, or Cohesity
- Strong experience in UNIX environments (Solaris, AIX) and Linux
- Certification such as Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) is advantageous
- VMware Certified Professional or equivalent experience
- Strong exposure to enterprise infrastructure and hardware including:
- Dell, HP, Intel, Cisco UCS, Sun Server hardware
- EMC, Dell Compellent, Hitachi VSP/HUS platforms
- Networking technologies such as Cisco Nexus, Cisco MDS, Brocade SAN switches, F5 BigIP
- Experience with Microsoft Windows Server environments
- Understanding of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) for storage and backup integration
- Strong understanding of disaster recovery, data protection, and compliance frameworks
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
