Johannesburg: Business Development Executive (Rail Industry)

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Business Development Executive to join our team in Johannesburg, responsible for driving sales growth and expanding our customer base within the mining and surface rail-related sectors. As a key member of our sales team, you will be expected to proactively identify new business opportunities, build strong relationships with customers, and contribute to the development of effective sales strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify and secure new customers within mining and surface rail-related sectors
  • Travel to customer sites to present, demonstrate, and promote products and services
  • Arrange meetings, demonstrations, and presentations with qualified prospects and senior sales or technical stakeholders
  • Prepare and present customer proposals and support tender submissions
  • Collaborate closely with Sales, Marketing, and Operations teams to ensure effective lead handover and customer onboarding
  • Serve as a key point of contact and relationship manager for assigned customers
  • Monitor competitor activity, industry trends, infrastructure developments, and upcoming projects or tenders
  • Identify and develop new market segments and growth opportunities
  • Drive consistent and profitable sales growth through customer acquisition and account expansion
  • Compile and submit regular sales and activity reports

Requirements

  • 57 years of experience in external technical sales or business development
  • Exposure to the mining or rail industry is advantageous
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively within South Africa and other African regions
  • Flexible approach to working hours
  • Knowledge of export procedures within sub-Saharan Africa and familiarity with continental financial instruments (advantageous)
  • Strong ability to explain technical product features clearly to customers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Performance-driven with a strong results orientation
  • Proven cold-calling, prospecting, and networking capability
