About the Role
Casa do sol School is seeking a highly skilled Financial Administrator – Bookkeeper to join our team in Johannesburg. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing school-related income streams, and ensuring compliance with South African tax legislation. Key Responsibilities
- Maintain full financial records up to financial statements, including trial balance, general ledger, cashbook, receipts, payments, journal entries, and reconciliations.
- Ensure accurate recording of all transactions and effective cash flow management.
- Manage all school-related income streams (school fees, aftercare, transport), issue receipts, maintain learner accounts, send monthly statements, and handle queries, collections, and exemptions.
- Process and verify invoices, manage supplier payments, control expenditure in line with approved budgets, and maintain accurate creditor records.
- Oversee bank accounts, deposits, transfers, petty cash, and related reconciliations, ensuring strong financial controls and safeguarding of funds.
- Administer school payroll, including payslips and monthly payments. Ensure compliance with South African statutory requirements (PAYE, UIF, SDL) and complete all SARS submissions, make statutory payments, and issue annual certificates.
- Accumulate the needs analysis from relevant staff members, align and prepare annual budget in line with GDE allocation and school budget, monitor actual performance against budget, and produce regular financial reports for management, the School Governing Body, and the GDE.
- Prepare for annual audits, maintain proper financial records, liaise with auditors, and ensure compliance with financial policies, legislation, and Department of Education requirements.
- Work closely with the Finance Committee, School Governing Body, auditors, bank, and GDE, providing accurate financial information and support for decision-making.
- Maintain financial documentation, contracts, insurance records, and statutory filings, ensuring proper filing and retention in line with regulatory requirements.
- Supporting management with financial insights.
- Any other ad hoc finance tasks as required from time to time.
Requirements
- Relevant qualifications in finance, accounting, or bookkeeping
- Proficiency in SAGE Accounting software – including General Ledger, Cashbook / Bank Manager, Accounts receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll and Administration (essential)
- Proficiency with MS Excel and MS Word for budgeting and reporting
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in financial administration to trial balance
- Knowledge of South African tax legislation, including PAYE, UIF, SDL, with experience in SARS e-Filing and EasyFile
- Familiarity with financial aspects of SASA, regulations, policies, budgeting, and reporting requirements (bonus)
