Job Description

The Medium Voltage Stator Cleaner & Core Repairer is responsible for cleaning, inspecting, repairing, and restoring medium-voltage (MV) motor and generator stators and cores. This role ensures electrical machines operate safely, efficiently, and reliably by maintaining insulation integrity, repairing core damage, and complying with industry standards and safety procedures. Stator Cleaning & Preparation Perform dry and wet cleaning of MV stators using approved methods (vacuuming, solvent cleaning, CO blasting, dry ice blasting, or pressure washing as specified). Remove contaminants such as oil, grease, carbon dust, moisture, and foreign materials without damaging insulation. Mask and protect sensitive components during cleaning activities. Dry stators using controlled heating methods (ovens, infrared heaters, space heaters) and verify moisture removal. Inspection & Testing Visually inspect stator windings, slots, wedges, and core laminations for signs of wear, contamination, overheating, or damage. Conduct and assist with electrical tests such as insulation resistance (IR), polarization index (PI), surge comparison, and hipot testing as required. Identify core hot spots, lamination looseness, and insulation degradation. Document inspection findings and test results accurately. Core Repair & Restoration Perform stator core repairs including lamination restacking, tightening, bonding, and replacement of damaged laminations. Repair core damage caused by overheating, vibration, or mechanical impact. Apply core coatings, varnishes, or insulating materials per specifications. Safety & Compliance Follow all electrical safety, lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space, and PPE requirements. Handle chemicals, solvents, and cleaning agents in accordance with MSDS/SDS guidelines. Maintain a clean and organized work area to prevent contamination and hazards. Comply with company policies, quality standards, and applicable industry standards (IEEE, IEC, OEM guidelines). Documentation & Teamwork Complete job reports, repair records, and quality checklists. Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, and team members regarding job status and findings. Support continuous improvement initiatives and share best practices Skills & Competencies Strong attention to detail and workmanship quality. Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity. Ability to work safely in industrial environments. Good communication and teamwork skills Physical Requirements Ability to lift and handle tools and components (up to specified weight limits). Comfortable working in confined spaces, elevated areas, and around large rotating equipment. Capable of standing, bending, kneeling, and working for extended periods High school diploma or technical/vocational training in electrical, mechanical, or industrial maintenance preferred. 25 years of experience in electric motor or generator stator cleaning, inspection, or repair (MV experience preferred). Knowledge of medium-voltage stator construction. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, work instructions, and test procedures.
