Johannesburg: Steel-fixer / Steel Reinforcement Worker

About the Role

We are seeking experienced Steel Fixers / Steel Reinforcement Workers for major construction projects in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as part of a one-year contract. The successful candidates will be responsible for building and installing steel reinforcement frameworks that provide tensile strength to concrete structures in high-rise and commercial developments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret structural and reinforcement drawings.
  • Cut, bend, shape, and tie steel reinforcing bars (rebar) according to engineering specifications.
  • Assemble and install reinforcing cages, mesh, stirrups, dowels, and mats.
  • Position rebar in foundations, columns, beams, slabs, and walls before concrete placement.
  • Ensure correct spacing, alignment, and concrete cover using spacers and chairs.
  • Operate bar cutting and bending machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Secure reinforcement using wire ties and other fastening methods.
  • Inspect reinforcement work for compliance with project requirements and safety standards.
  • Work at heights and in various site conditions while following strict HSE procedures.
  • Collaborate with carpenters, engineers, and supervisors to ensure project completion within deadlines.

Requirements

  • Minimum 35 years experience as a Steel Fixer in construction projects.
  • High-rise building experience will be advantageous.
  • Ability to read and understand reinforcement drawings.
  • Knowledge of load bearing and reinforcement requirements.
  • Experience using bar bending and cutting equipment.
  • Good understanding of workplace health and safety standards.
  • Physically fit and able to work in demanding site conditions.
