Job Description

IVANPLATS (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, is advancing the development of its world-class palladium-rhodium-nickel-copper-gold project in the Limpopo Province near Mokopane. This unique mineral deposit will be exploited using large mechanised state-of-the-art underground mining methods, deploying the latest technology to develop this mine of the future. Suitably qualified and experienced candidates are invited to apply for the following vacancies required for the project development. Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills Relevant Safety qualification (e.g. SAMTRAC, NEBOSH or equivalent). Strong knowledge of mining safety standards and legislation. Experience working in multi-contractor environments. Registration with relevant professional body advantageous. Suitable candidates must have the following work experience Minimum 58 years experience in safety within mining, construction or industrial environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to: Safety Oversight and Enforcement Conduct continuous on-site safety monitoring across all work fronts. Enforce adherence to mine safety procedures, standards and permit systems. Intervene immediately where unsafe acts or conditions are observed. Ensure all work is conducted within approved safety frameworks. Contractor Safety Management Ensure all contractors comply with safety requirements and procedures. Verify that contractors are properly trained, inducted and authorised to perform work. Monitor contractor behaviour and enforce discipline where required. Prevent informal or unauthorised work practices. Training and Safety Awareness Provide safety inductions and ongoing training to contractors. Ensure contractors understand risks associated with their activities. Promote safe work practices and behavioural change. Reinforce safety expectations through continuous engagement. Incident Prevention and Management Identify potential hazards and implement preventative measures. Investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions. Implement corrective and preventative actions. Maintain accurate incident records and reporting. Compliance and Regulatory Management Ensure compliance with all relevant safety legislation and mine standards. Support inspections and audits by internal and external stakeholders. Maintain documentation required for compliance and audit purposes. Ensure all permits, risk assessments and safety documentation are in place. Coordination with Construction and SHE Teams Work closely with Construction Manager and Supervisors to ensure safe execution. Align safety practices with project schedule and work sequencing. Support SHE Manager in implementing site-wide safety strategies. Support engineering teams in verifying design implementation on site. Risk Identification and Mitigation Identify high-risk activities and ensure appropriate controls are in place. Monitor trends in safety performance and address root causes. Implement proactive measures to reduce risk exposure. Governance and Control Ensure all safety processes are properly documented and auditable. Prevent non-compliance that could result in regulatory action. Escalate serious safety risks or repeated non-compliance immediately.
