Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Commissioning Site Supervisor to lead pre-commissioning and commissioning activities on large-scale industrial and process plant projects across South Africa and the broader African region. This is a leadership role responsible for managing commissioning teams, coordinating multidisciplinary stakeholders, and ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient plant start-up and handover. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage all pre-commissioning and commissioning activities across multiple systems and disciplines Ensure equipment readiness, system completion, and handover in line with project milestones Develop, review, and implement commissioning strategies, procedures, and schedules Oversee commissioning teams, contractors, and vendors on-site Drive compliance with South African regulations, project specifications, and international standards Manage: System walkdowns and punch listing Mechanical completion and turnover processes Functional testing and start-up activities Identify project risks and implement mitigation and corrective actions Provide regular reporting on progress, risks, and performance to project leadership Coordinate closely with construction, engineering, and operations teams Health, Safety & Compliance Champion a zero-harm safety culture aligned with South African HSE regulations Ensure strict adherence to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act requirements Lead site safety initiatives, including: Risk assessments and hazard identification Permit-to-work systems Toolbox talks and safety audits Empower teams to stop unsafe work immediately Planning & Coordination Lead commissioning planning aligned with overall project schedules and milestones Coordinate mobilization of commissioning personnel, vendors, and specialist contractors Interface with Site Managers, clients, and regulatory authorities Ensure delivery targets for safety, quality, cost, and schedule are achieved Minimum Requirements Bachelors degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Automation) Minimum 812 years experience in industrial or process plant environments At least 5 years in a senior commissioning or leadership role Strong experience in: Pre-commissioning & commissioning execution Large-scale EPC or brownfield/greenfield projects Multidisciplinary systems (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation) Solid knowledge of: Commissioning tools, procedures, and documentation Engineering drawings (P&IDs, single-line diagrams, etc.) HSE systems and risk management Preferred Experience Experience working on projects within Africa or remote site environments Background in sectors such as: Energy (oil & gas, renewables, power generation) Mining & minerals processing Petrochemical or heavy industry Professional registration with Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) or eligibility to register Key Competencies Strong leadership and team management skills High level of accountability and decision-making ability Excellent stakeholder management (clients, contractors, regulators) Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving capability Ability to perform under pressure in fast-paced site environments Languages English (required) Additional African or international languages are advantageous
