About the Role

As a Counter Sales Assistant in our Port Elizabeth branch, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service to walk-in, telephonic, and email customers with product enquiries. You will also have the opportunity to upsell and cross-sell complementary products, build strong relationships with contractors, retailers, and trade customers, and contribute to a fast-paced sales environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist walk-in, telephonic, and email customers with product enquiries
  • Provide professional advice on hardware products, tools, building materials, and related solutions
  • Prepare accurate quotations based on customer requirements
  • Convert quotations into confirmed sales orders
  • Upsell and cross-sell complementary products
  • Build strong relationships with contractors, retailers, and trade customers
  • Follow up on outstanding quotations and back orders
  • Capture sales orders accurately on the system
  • Ensure correct pricing, discounts, and stock availability
  • Liaise with warehouse and dispatch teams regarding order fulfilment
  • Coordinate special orders with suppliers when stock is unavailable
  • Process returns, credits, and exchanges in line with company policy
  • Maintain customer records and account details

Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • 25 years internal sales experience within the hardware, building materials and tools industry
  • Strong product knowledge of hardware-related items
  • Computer literacy (MS Office, POS/ERP systems, quotations, invoicing)
  • Strong numerical accuracy and administration skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
