About the Role
As a Counter Sales Assistant in our Port Elizabeth branch, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service to walk-in, telephonic, and email customers with product enquiries. You will also have the opportunity to upsell and cross-sell complementary products, build strong relationships with contractors, retailers, and trade customers, and contribute to a fast-paced sales environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist walk-in, telephonic, and email customers with product enquiries
- Provide professional advice on hardware products, tools, building materials, and related solutions
- Prepare accurate quotations based on customer requirements
- Convert quotations into confirmed sales orders
- Upsell and cross-sell complementary products
- Build strong relationships with contractors, retailers, and trade customers
- Follow up on outstanding quotations and back orders
- Capture sales orders accurately on the system
- Ensure correct pricing, discounts, and stock availability
- Liaise with warehouse and dispatch teams regarding order fulfilment
- Coordinate special orders with suppliers when stock is unavailable
- Process returns, credits, and exchanges in line with company policy
- Maintain customer records and account details
Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric
- 25 years internal sales experience within the hardware, building materials and tools industry
- Strong product knowledge of hardware-related items
- Computer literacy (MS Office, POS/ERP systems, quotations, invoicing)
- Strong numerical accuracy and administration skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication
