Roodepoort: Legal Secretary (Legal Collections)

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Secretary to join our team in Roodepoort. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing administrative support to attorneys and managing legal collections, including drafting pleadings and notices, managing undefended matters, and liaising with debtors and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting, collating, and facilitating the issuing and service of legal pleadings and notices
  • Managing the filing and progression of undefended legal actions
  • Attending to follow-ups on issuing, service, judgment, and outcomes of matters
  • Assisting attorneys with supervision of various legal processes
  • Ensuring matters are progressed efficiently and expeditiously across multiple jurisdictions
  • Liaising with debtors, sheriffs, correspondents, and service providers
  • Drafting legal documentation
  • Monitoring and reporting on court processes and outcomes
  • Diary management
  • Handling court-related queries
  • Performing general administrative functions

Requirements

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure in a high-volume environment
  • Excellent time-management and organisational skills
  • High levels of confidentiality and accountability
  • Self-motivated and proactive

Qualifications

  • 35 years experience in legal collections, particularly drafting pleadings and notices and managing undefended matters
  • Experience with Sectional Title Scheme based collections (advantageous)
  • Experience in bank collections / foreclosures would also be an advantage
  • Matric certificate
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
