About the Role
We are seeking an experienced HVAC Design Engineer to lead technical design and delivery of HVAC systems within our pharmaceutical and biotechnology projects in Cape Town. The successful candidate will hold full technical accountability for HVAC projects, providing technical leadership and developing robust solutions for GMP-regulated environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate a minimum of 35 years of experience in HVAC design and at least 2 years in pharmaceutical or biotech projects.
- Manage conceptual and detailed HVAC designs for specialized life science facilities and ISO-classified cleanrooms.
- Perform and review heat load calculations, airflow rates, psychrometric analysis, and equipment sizing.
- Produce HVAC schematics, P&IDs, 2D/3D layout drawings, and comprehensive technical reports.
- Ensure all designs strictly adhere to GMP, GEP, and relevant ISO or regulatory standards such as WHO, EU, or FDA.
- Develop equipment specifications, manage technical adjudication, and provide oversight of subcontractor deliverables.
- Supervise commissioning activities and support validation documentation including DQ, IQ, and OQ.
- Guide junior engineers and act as the primary technical contact for clients and regulatory stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng/BSc Eng/B.Tech).
- Minimum 35 years of experience in HVAC design.
- At least 2 years of experience in pharmaceutical or biotech projects with proven experience in GMP-compliant cleanrooms.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D/3D) and HVAC Design Software such as HAP or equivalent.
- Advanced skills in MS Word for formatting and MS Excel for complex formulas and data management.
Qualifications
- ECSA Professional registration (PrEng/PrTechEng) is preferred.
- Experience with Revit for 3D modeling and coordination is highly preferred.
