About the Role

The Mbombela: Splicing Technician plays a critical role in connecting fibre optic clients to GPON networks, ensuring seamless communication services. This position requires a skilled individual with extensive experience in fibre optic splicing, installation, and testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform fibre splicing, termination, and testing
  • Connect FTTH and FTTB clients to GPON networks
  • Diagnose and repair fibre network faults
  • Read and work from network designs and technical drawings
  • Complete and submit accurate as-built documentation
  • Conduct OTDR and power meter testing
  • Build and test end-to-end enterprise links
  • Work closely with project teams to meet deadlines and project targets

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years experience in fibre optic splicing, installation, and testing
  • Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent qualification
  • Fibre optic certifications (FOA, CFOT, or similar) advantageous
  • Proficient with OTDRs, power meters, and fusion splicers
  • Strong knowledge of fibre optic standards and best practices
  • Experience with underground and aerial fibre installations
