Mechanical Design Head Lead Strategic Mechanical Design in the Water Engineering Sector Somerset West | R60, 000 CTC About Our Client A well-established engineering company focused on delivering innovative water and wastewater treatment solutions. With a commitment to quality, sustainability, and efficient project delivery, the company fosters a hands-on, collaborative environment where engineering expertise drives impact. The Role: Mechanical Design Head This role is a strategic and technical leadership position responsible for overseeing all aspects of mechanical design across water and wastewater treatment projects. You will ensure designs are practical, efficient, and aligned with project and company goals, while mentoring and managing a team of skilled engineers. This position plays a pivotal role in aligning cross-functional teams and delivering high-impact infrastructure solutions. Key Responsibilities Minimum 810 years of experience in mechanical design, including team leadership Lead and oversee mechanical design activities for water and wastewater treatment projects Review, approve, and ensure accuracy of drawings, specifications, and calculations Deliver cost-effective, sustainable, and buildable designs Provide technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle Coordinate and align multidisciplinary teams to meet deadlines and deliverables Ensure compliance with quality, health & safety, and environmental standards Collaborate closely with Production and Manufacturing to ensure design feasibility Manage and mentor the mechanical design team Drive innovation and continuous improvement in design standards Oversee project cost, quality, schedule, and subcontractor performance About You Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering (Professional registration advantageous) Proven experience leading mechanical design in the water or wastewater sector Strong background in mechanical plant design, piping systems, and pump stations Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams Proficient in CAD platforms and Microsoft Project Solid understanding of EHS and quality compliance standards Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to engineering challenges
