About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Technical Consultant to join our Group Technology team in Johannesburg. As a technical thought leader, you will provide expertise on integrating solutions across multiple technologies and design enterprise storage solutions that meet our clients’ needs. You will work closely with stakeholders to develop capacity planning models, lead storage refreshes, and implement backup and recovery solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical thought leader within Group Technology, providing expertise on integrating solutions across multiple technologies
  • Design and implement enterprise storage solutions including SAN, NAS, Object Storage, and Hyper-Converged environments
  • Configure and optimise storage arrays such as Dell PowerMax, Pure Storage, Hitachi, and NetApp
  • Define storage tiering strategies aligned to performance, cost, and workload requirements
  • Develop capacity planning models and forecasting reports
  • Lead storage refreshes, upgrades, migrations, and consolidation initiatives
  • Architect and implement backup and recovery solutions using tools such as Commvault, NetBackup, Veeam, Rubrik, or Cohesity
  • Define backup strategies including policies, scheduling, retention, and media management
  • Implement and test disaster recovery (DR) capabilities for critical workloads
  • Optimise backup performance through deduplication, compression, and efficient storage utilisation
  • Integrate backup platforms with cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GCP)
  • Develop and implement enterprise archiving strategies for structured and unstructured data

Requirements

  • Relevant Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
  • Proven experience in enterprise storage, backup, and infrastructure engineering
  • Strong expertise in SAN/NAS, storage arrays, and data management solutions
  • Hands-on experience with backup technologies such as Commvault, NetBackup, Veeam, Rubrik, or Cohesity
  • Strong experience in UNIX environments (Solaris, AIX) and Linux
  • Certification such as Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) is advantageous
  • VMware Certified Professional or equivalent experience
  • Strong exposure to enterprise infrastructure and hardware including: Dell, HP, Intel, Cisco UCS, Sun Server hardware EMC, Dell Compellent, Hitachi VSP/HUS platforms
  • Networking technologies such as Cisco Nexus, Cisco MDS, Brocade SAN switches, F5 BigIP
