About the Role

Our client, a leading South African hospitality group, is seeking an ambitious and creatively driven Executive Chef to lead their newest venture in Cape Town. The restaurant will focus on live-fire cooking, fermentation, and a strong beverage programme, opening in October 2026. We are looking for a Head Chef/Creative Lead who can take full ownership of the kitchen from day one and stamp their own name on this flagship opening.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set the culinary direction in line with the group’s vision
  • Build and lead the kitchen team
  • Develop and refine the menu around fire, ferments, and a strong beverage pairing
  • Manage food cost, suppliers, and stock
  • Uphold service standards from day one of trading
  • Take full ownership of the kitchen from day one

Requirements

  • 3-5 years’ cooking experience at the top end of the Cape Town restaurant scene
  • Track record built within the city’s leading kitchens
  • Time spent in establishments widely recognised among Cape Town’s best
  • Genuine interest and capability in live-fire cooking, fermentation, and beverage-led food pairing
  • Strong leadership and ability to build, train, and run a kitchen team from a standing start
  • Comfortable with the visibility, intensity, and stakes of opening a high-profile restaurant

Qualifications

  • Formal education/certifications (Bachelor’s, LLB, Matric, etc.)

Salary & Benefits

  • Up to R80 000 CTC pm, depending on experience
  • Permanent position, restaurant-based in Cape Town
  • Immediately available, in the build-up to an October 2026 opening
