About the Role

A leading food manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Quality Systems Specialist to join their team in Port Elizabeth. The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert on Quality and Food Safety, ensuring the maintenance and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System across multiple production facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve the Quality Management System (QMS)
• Assist in establishing and implementing Food Safety and Quality policies, procedures, standards, and specifications
• Ensure compliance with HACCP, FSSC 22000, QA systems, GMP, GLP, and relevant South African regulations
• Participate in Internal Audits, HACCP, TACCP (Food Defence), VACCP (Food Fraud), and Special Situations teams
• Assist with non-conformance investigations and close-out of audit findings
• Act as Deputy for SANS 1841 implementation and maintenance
• Manage the Supplier Approval Process and conduct supplier audits when required
• Implement and maintain Supplier Quality Assurance controls and documentation
• Specify and monitor raw material quality requirements with suppliers
• Manage and maintain the equipment calibration programme
• Train and coach staff on Food Safety, HACCP, GMP, GLP, hygiene, allergen management, sanitation, pest control, traceability, and related requirements
• Ensure adherence to OHS Act, FSSC 22000, GMP and internal food safety procedures
• Complete purchase orders and verify quotations and invoices before submission to Accounts
• Travel between production facilities and conduct supplier audits where required
• Perform additional duties as required by management

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree (preferably in Food Science, Microbiology or equivalent)
• 35 years experience within the Food Manufacturing Industry
• Strong knowledge of HACCP, FSSC 22000, QA systems, GMP and GLP
• Thorough understanding of laboratory practices and procedures
• Experience with supplier quality management and regulatory compliance
• Advanced computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel)
• Strong analytical, numerical, organisational and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
• Valid drivers licence and reliable vehicle
