Job Description
- Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in civil or structural
- Eng. / Pr. Tech would be advantageous.
- Relevant post-graduate qualifications, albeit technical, management, or business related, would be advantageous.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in civil & structural engineering and package management within the construction and engineering
- Exposure to process plant design, preferably in the pyrometallurgical
- Experience in contract management, engineering, costing/cost control, HAZOP, SHERQC, and multi-disciplinary construction of process
Knowledge required:
- Development of civil & structural specifications, data sheets, calculations, reports, and design criteria, preferentially in the smelter, material/product handling, and utilities/services environments.
- Development of civil and structural designs for earthworks, foundations, drainage, roads, structures in reinforced concrete, timber, and steelwork, and building
- Proficient in limit states design
- Ability to use Robot Structural Analysis, Prokon, or Staad Pro to do structural analysis.
- Basic understanding of project scheduling.
- Strong technical drawing review skills, both 2D and 3D
- Industry Codes and Standards for structural design in South Africa and abroad
- Pricing, tendering, and budgeting principles
- Knowledge of Health and Safety rules and regulations (Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Mines Health and Safety Act).
Skills:
- Multi-discipline interfacing in a project environment.
- Ability to understand the impacts of design on construction activities and actively manage the design to assist and reduce construction costs and reduce construction costs and timelines.
- Fundamental understanding of 3D modelling and intelligent, model integration and collaboration, and how these are applied in the Building Information Modelling (BIM) process.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc
- Ability to interact with design teams remotely, via electronic communication platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc.
- Strong 3D and spatial awareness and visualization
- Detailed analytical skills to measure, audit, investigate, solve problems, present ideas, and negotiate.
- Ability to use time productively, maximize efficiency, and meet challenging work goals
- Analytical thinker with the ability to examine issues from multiple viewpoints
- An ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Accuracy and attention to detail with emphasis placed on quality.
- Able to work under minimal supervision
- Exceptional people skills, punctuality, and forward planning
- Sound written and verbal communication skills for submission of management reports, planning, and progress meetings.
- Must possess and maintain an exceptional work ethic as well as uphold the company values
