About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated classroom / school facilitator for a 9-year-old, autistic boy (with overlapping ADHD & a PDA profile), in the Upper Highway area in Durban, KZN. The child in question is a very bright, kind-spirited young boy who is very socially motivated, but finds it difficult to form meaningful friendships with his same-age peers. He loves sport, particularly soccer, and has a special interest in Harry Potter books. He is eager to learn, but is currently struggling with the increased demands of the Intermediate Phase of schooling.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide support to the child for the full academic school day, to oversee his learning, and task engagement.
- Assist him with focusing and staying on task.
- Plan and organise his daily activities and tasks.
- Support his executive functioning skills and regulation needs throughout the day.
- Collaborate and communicate with his parents, teachers, and his wider multidisciplinary team.
Requirements
- Experience working with children, particularly those that are neurodivergent.
- Experience in neurodivergence (particularly ADHD) is advantageous.
- Experience working in a school environment.
- Punctuality.
- A gentle and kind approach to working with children, whilst remaining firm in boundaries is essential.
- Availability 5-days a week from 07h30 until 14h00.
Qualifications
No formal education/certifications are required for this role. However, a qualification / certification in teaching and/or Psychology would be advantageous.
Salary & Benefits
The salary for this role has not been specified. However, the Neurodiversity Centre will provide support sessions for one month thereafter, working in collaboration with the wider multidisciplinary team based at the centre.
