Johannesburg: Assistant Executive Housekeeper

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Assistant Executive Housekeeper to join our team in Sandton, Johannesburg. As a key member of our hospitality and tourism industry, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness and presentation across our hotel’s guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, and facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in overseeing the daily operations of the Housekeeping Department
  • Ensure guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, and facilities meet hotel cleanliness and presentation standards
  • Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms and public areas to ensure quality assurance
  • Monitor room readiness and coordinate with Front Office to ensure smooth guest arrivals and departures
  • Ensure housekeeping schedules and operational plans are executed effectively
  • Assist in managing outsourced cleaning services where applicable
  • Supervise housekeeping supervisors, room attendants, public area cleaners, and laundry staff
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and coaching sessions
  • Prepare staff rosters in accordance with occupancy levels and operational requirements
  • Promote a positive, productive, and guest-focused work environment
  • Ensure staff comply with grooming, attendance, and service standards
  • Assist in managing housekeeping supplies, linen, guest amenities, and cleaning equipment
  • Monitor stock levels and coordinate purchasing requirements
  • Conduct regular inventory counts and linen audits
  • Minimise wastage and ensure cost-effective use of resources
  • Assist in managing departmental budgets and expenditure
  • Ensure guests receive exceptional service and a comfortable stay experience
  • Address guest complaints and housekeeping-related concerns promptly and professionally
  • Follow up on guest requests and special requirements
  • Maintain high levels of guest satisfaction through attention to detail and service excellence
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, hygiene standards, and company policies
  • Monitor safe handling and storage of cleaning chemicals and equipment
  • Participate in departmental audits and inspections
  • Ensure housekeeping procedures align with hotel brand standards and operational requirements
  • Assist with departmental reporting, record keeping, and operational administration
  • Monitor productivity, staffing levels, and room turnaround times
  • Prepare reports relating to housekeeping operations, maintenance issues, and inventory management

Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Culinary qualification with a focus on Pastry Arts or Professional Cookery
  • Minimum 35 years’ experience in a pastry kitchen, including experience in a supervisory or senior pastry role
  • Strong knowledge of pastry techniques, baking methods, and dessert presentation
  • Experience within a hotel, restaurant, bakery, or hospitality environment
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen
