About the Role

Our client, a leading player in the short-term insurance domain, is seeking an experienced Development Manager to lead and stabilize their development function. This senior leadership role focuses on delivering reliability, production stability, and maintaining strong engineering standards in a complex, regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading and managing the development department in a delivery-driven environment
  • Overseeing planning, prioritization, and execution of development work
  • Ensuring delivery timelines are met while maintaining technical quality
  • Managing workloads, risks, dependencies, and production stability
  • Maintaining development standards, code review practices, and release discipline
  • Providing technical leadership around design, architecture, and problem-solving
  • Supporting and mentoring developers through regular performance discussions
  • Identifying skills gaps and development needs within the team
  • Ensuring documentation, processes, and technical standards remain current
  • Communicating progress, risks, and resourcing needs to business leadership

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in software development
  • 35+ years of experience in a development management or leadership role
  • Proven experience managing development teams in a delivery-focused environment
  • Strong understanding of the full software development lifecycle
  • Experience with release management, production risk, and delivery governance
  • Ability to engage technically (architecture discussions, code reviews, solution design)
  • Experience in the short-term insurance industry (strongly preferred)

Qualifications

Relevant degree or equivalent professional experience. Proven leadership and technical credibility are prioritised.
