Johannesburg: Director of Operations – Online Gaming

About the Role

Join our client, a well-established hospitality and gaming group operating across South Africa and Botswana, as Director of Operations Online Gaming. This is a pivotal stage of growth for their online gaming division, and we are seeking an experienced operator to lead the operational build and scale of this business. As a key member of the leadership team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the online gaming division and drive its long-term success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the end-to-end operation of the online gaming business, ensuring operational performance, uptime and player experience standards are consistently achieved
  • Lead all operational functions including customer services, VIP management, fraud and risk, payments and compliance
  • Drive operational reporting, KPI tracking and executive-level performance reviews across the business
  • Manage responsible gambling, AML controls and regulatory compliance in line with South African gaming legislation and licensing requirements
  • Lead fraud prevention and risk mitigation strategies while balancing commercial performance and player experience
  • Oversee payment operations, provider relationships and withdrawal processes to ensure speed, compliance and operational efficiency
  • Develop and lead senior operational teams, driving accountability, performance and continuous improvement
  • Work closely with executive leadership to support the long-term growth and positioning of the online gaming division
  • Represent the online gaming business at executive and board level where required

Requirements

  • 10 years of experience within online gaming operations, ideally from a licensed operator environment
  • Proven experience in a senior operational leadership role within sportsbook and/or online casino operations
  • Strong understanding of regulated gaming environments, compliance obligations, responsible gambling and AML frameworks
  • Experience leading operational teams across customer service, VIP, payments, fraud and compliance functions
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to translate operational data into strategic business decisions
