About the Role
Our client, a renowned theatre venue in Johannesburg, is seeking an experienced Assistant Technical Manager to support the smooth running of their productions and technical operations. As a key member of the production team, you will be responsible for ensuring seamless technical delivery, collaborating with contractors and venue management, and maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Liaise with outsourced production companies and touring crews to ensure seamless technical delivery.
- Provide input and review of technical rider documents, ensuring compliance with venue capabilities.
- Oversee the setup, operation, and strike of lighting, sound, stage, and rigging equipment.
- Ensure all technical equipment is operational, maintained, and available for productions.
- Conduct venue assessments and arrange proactive maintenance in line with health and safety standards.
- Supervise technical staff and contractors, ensuring adherence to schedules and quality standards.
- Assist with budgeting, procurement, and inventory control of technical equipment and consumables.
- Fulfil administrative duties as requested by the Theatre Manager, including reporting and documentation.
- Support emergency procedures and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
Requirements
- Matric
- Tertiary qualification or diploma in Technical Theatre, Stage Management, or related field (preferred)
- Proven project management experience within theatre or live entertainment
- Background in the South African theatre industry with strong technical expertise
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety standards and compliance requirements
