Job Description
We are seeking experienced Process Technicians with strong Flexographic (Flexo) printing experience to support and optimize high-speed serviette manufacturing lines.
The primary purpose of the role is process development, standardization, and capability building, rather than routine machine operation. The Process Technician will develop and maintain operating centrelines, support machine setups, lead problem-solving initiatives, develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and ensure that operators are trained and deemed competent to perform their roles.
Reporting to the Production Manager, this role is critical in driving consistent quality, stable processes, waste reduction, and operational excellence within the printing and converting environment.
KEY PERFOMANCE AREA:
- Develop, document, and maintain machine operating centrelines for Flexo printing and converting processes.
- Optimise process parameters to ensure consistent print quality, colour registration, ink performance, and production efficiency.
- Monitor process capability and identify opportunities for continuous improvement and waste reduction.
- Provide technical support on Flexographic printing processes, including ink systems, plates, anilox rollers, substrates, and drying.
- Support colour consistency, registration accuracy, and print quality on tissue and serviette substrates.
- Troubleshoot complex Flexo printing issues such as colour variation, ink build-up, plate wear, web instability, and print defects.
- Equip production teams to perform simple and routine machine setups independently.
- Lead and assist with complex setups, changeovers, and troubleshooting.
- Conduct structured root-cause analysis for recurring quality or downtime issues and implement corrective actions.
- Develop, review, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and technical standards.
- Ensure processes are standardised, controlled, and aligned with food-safe and quality requirements.
- Support audits by ensuring procedures and centrelines are documented and adhered to.
- Train operators and technicians on machine operation, process control, quality standards, and basic troubleshooting.
- Assess and verify operator competence against defined standards.
- Support skills development and knowledge transfer within the production team.
- Work closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Design teams to resolve process and product issues.
- Support downstream processes such as embossing, folding, cutting, and packaging from a process-stability perspective.
- Provide technical input for continuous improvement, new product introductions, and equipment upgrades.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification.
- Trade-related qualification in Printing, Graphic Arts, Flexographic Printing, or Industrial Printing.
- Proven experience in Flexographic (Flexo) printing is essential.
- Demonstrated experience as a Process Technician, Senior Printer, or Technical Specialist in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of:

- Basic computer literacy for documentation, reporting, and production systems.
- Ability to work in a high-volume, shift-based manufacturing environment.
- Strong communication, organizational, and coaching skills.
