Job Description

The Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing daily accounting functions, and supporting the overall financial operations of the business.

This role requires a candidate who is able to work independently, take full ownership of their responsibilities, and operate effectively within a small, professional team environment.

Key Responsibilities Bookkeeping & Financial Administration

  • Capture and process daily financial transactions
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records
  • Prepare and process journal entries
  • Perform bank and supplier reconciliations
  • Assist with month-end procedures and reporting
  • Maintain proper filing of financial documents

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Process supplier invoices and ensure correct allocation
  • Prepare and load payments on online banking platforms
  • Take full responsibility for payment accuracy and timelines
  • Follow up on outstanding payments where required
  • Reconcile accounts payable and receivable balances

VAT

  • Prepare VAT reconciliations and supporting schedules
  • Ensure correct VAT treatment on transactions
  • Assist with VAT return preparation and submissions
  • Maintain VAT documentation in line with regulations

Payroll

  • Process monthly payroll for employees
  • Ensure payroll accuracy including deductions and statutory requirements
  • Maintain payroll records and employee information
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation (PAYE, UIF, etc.)

General Administration

  • Manage and reconcile petty cash
  • Assist with general administrative and operational tasks
  • Support audit preparation and provide required documentation
  • Assist management with ad hoc financial and admin duties

Requirements

  • Fully bilingual in Afrikaans and English (spoken and written)
  • Minimum 3+ years experience in a bookkeeping or finance role
  • Relevant qualification in Accounting / Bookkeeping (advantageous)
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g. Pastel or similar)
  • Experience with payroll processing
  • Strong knowledge of VAT principles
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
