About the Role

Gijima Holdings is seeking an experienced Network Engineer to join our team in Midrand. The successful candidate will provide second-line support for network incidents and service requests escalated from Level 1, as well as troubleshoot and resolve LAN, WAN, and wireless network issues. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work with disparate individuals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide second-line support for network incidents and service requests escalated from Level 1.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve LAN, WAN, and wireless network issues.
  • Configure and maintain switches, routers, firewalls, and access points.
  • Monitor network performance and proactively address potential issues.
  • Implement and support routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP – basic level).
  • Perform network changes, upgrades, and patching in line with change management processes.
  • Maintain and update network documentation, diagrams, and inventory.
  • Support VPN solutions and remote site connectivity.
  • Ensure network security policies, standards, and best practices are applied.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of new network projects.
  • Coordinate with vendors for hardware replacements and technical support.
  • Provide after-hours/on-call support as required for critical network issues.
  • Mentor and support Level 1 engineers to build team capability.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 (NQF 4)
  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma qualifications in ICT field will be an advantage.
  • 5 – 7 years’ experience in a network environment
  • Hands-on experience supporting and troubleshooting LAN/WAN environments.
  • Configuration and maintenance of network equipment.
  • Experience with firewall administration (e.g. Fortinet, Juniper, Cisco ASA).
  • VLAN configuration, trunking, spanning tree, and link aggregation (LACP).
  • Implementing and managing routing protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP – basic).
  • IP addressing, subnetting, DHCP, DNS, and NAT configuration experience.
  • Monitoring network performance and availability.
  • Troubleshooting network incidents escalated from Level 1 support.
  • Supporting remote site connectivity (VPN/IPSec/SSL VPN).

Qualifications

  • CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) certified and additional Cisco specialisations
  • Ruckus Network – RCNI (RUCKUS Certified Networking Implementer) will be an advantage.
  • Juniper Networks – JNCIP (Juniper Networks Certified Internet Professional) will be an advantage.
  • Fortinet NSE4 Certified will be an advantage.
